Monkeypox cases found in the North West as disease climbs

Cases of monkeypox have been found in the North West as the virus is to be listed as a 'notifiable disease' in law from today (June 8).

The update comes as the number of cases rises to more than 300 across the UK. A handful of cases - less than five - have been found in the North West, according to the UKHSA.

Following the diseases' prevalence within those who are gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men, a senior Greater Manchester health source has warned that the inference that monkeypox is a sexually transmitted disease should be extinguished.

The source told the Manchester Evening News that 'technically we are all at risk' as it does not only affect 'certain cohorts of the population'.
