Get the stories that matter to you sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletter.Work is still ongoing to improve fire safety in Dumbarton’s high rise blocks following the Grenfell Tower tragedy – with millions to be spent improving them.West Dunbartonshire Council has been planning to boost safety across its 19 blocks, which include three in Westbridgend, since the tragic fire led to questions about fire safety across the UK.Seventy-two people died as a result of the London fire in June 2017 and a public inquiry is currently underway.In West Dunbartonshire, fire safety risk assessments were undertaken, which in October 2017 recommended spandrel panels beneath some of the windows were removed and replaced at 11 of the high rises,.

A pilot was hospitalized with unknown injuries after crashing a small plane Friday just outside an airport in Southern California, according to reports.  The pilot had radioed the San Bernardino International Airport, east of Los Angeles, about experiencing engine failure but failed to make it to the runway, crashing behind some buildings in an industrial area about 3 miles away, KCBS-TV of Los Angeles reported. No passengers were on the plane and no one on the ground was injured, the San Bernardino Police Department said, according to FOX 11 in Los Angeles.
