Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has issued a statement in response to what he has described as "totally false news stories".
Henderson had over the weekend seen his name linked with "hurtful" reports and has moved to end any speculation on social media.
Posting on his Instagram page, Henderson said: "Can't believe I'm having to do this but I'd just like to address the rumours that have come to light in the last couple of days. "There are some sad people in the world that have attached my name to such inappropriate, hurtful and totally false news stories. "I have a family who have been affected by this so wanted to put the rumours to bed and move on." The England international, who joined United from Carlisle United back in 2011, has been limited to just five appearances in all competitions this season because of the form and heroics of David de Gea.
Henderson and De Gea were poised to go head-to-head in pursuit for the No.1 spot this season but the former contracted Covid-19 during pre-season and it took him several weeks to recover, meaning De Gea stole a march in the battle to land the spot between the sticks.
