A new public square is set to come to a south Manchester suburb as part of a wave of regeneration. New government cash is set to revitalise Withington by creating a new public square near the library, and making shopping thoroughfare Copson Street a ‘pedestrian priority area’.
Originally, Manchester City Council planned to fully pedestrianise the road, but local businesses were against the idea, the authority said.
Instead, Copson Street will be narrowed and chicaned to slow down traffic, and on-street parking has already been removed in order to widen the pavement to create a tree-lined public space with seating.
Delivery vehicles will still be permitted on the street, albeit at limited times. Try MEN Premium now for FREE... just click here to give it a go.
