Manchester's Christmas Markets stalls were all ordered to stop selling booze on Saturday night - amid fears of potential crowd trouble in the city centre.

All food and drink stalls were told to stop serving any alcoholic beverages from 6.30pm on Saturday - two-and-a-half-hours earlier than their planned closing time of 9pm.

Stallholders have reported being told by Manchester Council's markets officers that it would be a temporary restriction while things "calmed down" but town continued to remain busy throughout Saturday night and so booze remained off the table at the Christmas Markets.
