Man in court in connection with suspicious item discovered in grounds of Holyrood Palace

Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. Julien Dupuis appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday charged with breach of the peace.

Dupuis, 39, of Edinburgh, made no plea. He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.He is expected to appear again in court within the next eight days.It comes after specialist search teams were seen combing the area around the Queen’s official residence in Scotland following the alert which happened on Tuesday night.It’s understood staff members working at the palace in Edinburgh alerted police around 8.50pm to a suspicious item.Military bomb squads made the item safe.It’s understood the item was not considered ‘viable’ by police.A police spokesman previously said: “We were called.
