A man and a woman have been evacuated from their upstairs flat in a South Ayrshire town after a fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency services descended on Dalrymple Street in Girvan, around 20 miles south of Ayr, after receiving reports of a fire in a residential property at around 12.40am on Sunday September 18.

Four fire engines were deployed to the scene and have remained there throughout the night tackling the blaze and dampening down the scene.

The road was still closed as of 10.30am, according to trunk road monitoring body Amey. No-one is reported to have been injured in the fire after the two occupants of the flat, a man and a woman, were safely removed from the building.
