By Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor As the coronavirus pandemic has devastated the touring industry, it is not surprising that Live Nation, the world’s largest live-entertainment company, has been impacted on a scale arguably greater than that of any other company.

Not only has it seen more than 8,000 concerts and festivals impacted since March (with 6,500 events postponed and 1,500 events cancelled), it has been clobbered in the press for its refund policy — which was recently revised, after considerable criticism, to include postponed shows as well as cancelled ones — and seen its stock prices take a beating, and its Ticketmaster service has had some 50,000 events on its platform impacted.

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorFor years many observers have said that the Recording Academy president/CEO role was too big for a single person, and the organization on Friday announced the creation of two key senior leadership positions — chief operating officer and chief industry officer — amid a larger staff reorganization.According to the announcement, key features of the reorganization are the streamlining of most of the Academy’s staff into three divisions:  the Entertainment / Consumer Division, led by Branden Chapman, the Academy’s new chief operating officer, and the Trade / Industry Division, led by Ruby Marchand, who joins the organization as its new chief industry officer and the Organization / Cross Verticals Division.

Live Nation chief executive Michael Rapino emailed his staff Tuesday detailing plans for issuing refunds to ticket buyers, including news the company was expanding its refund offer to fans who bought tickets for events that have not yet been rescheduled. If new dates aren't set within 60 days of the original event date, fans will automatically be emailed a refund offer, or they can elect to keep their tickets, he explained.The staff memo comes after the Live Nation-owned Ticketmaster fell under intense pressure to offer customers refunds for postponed shows, including complaints from several members of Congress and an angry chorus of fans and members of the media.
