Lanarkshire gin lovers are toasting the success of a new botanical that owes its free spirit to the unlikely pairing of a 1972 camper van named Jasmine and a cupboard in a Glasgow tenement flat.The Jaunty Camper gin, which is in the running for the Distilled Gin of the Year crown in the Scottish Gin Awards 2021, began life during lockdown when the VW camper van that was the inspiration for its name was parked up, with nowhere to go.Yva McKerlich’s love affair with Jasmine began in October 2014, as she nursed her mum through the end stages of cancer.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
