According to Jene Galvin, a family friend and executive producer of Springer's podcast, Springer died peacefully on Thursday at his home in Chicago after a brief illness. “Jerry's ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” said a spokesperson for Springer.Born in 1949, Springer began his unconventional career as a politician, unsuccessfully running for Congress in 1970 and then getting elected to Cincinnati's City Council in 1971.
