The Trotters have confirmed that a reserves team will compete in the EFL's Central League in the upcoming campaign. The team will be run by Sam Hird, who has been confirmed as both a first team coach but will also be in charge of the new reserve set-up.

Over the past season, there has been no reserve team football at Bolton after a shake-up of the club's Academy last year. It led to the under-23s side being discontinued by the end of the 2019/20 campaign,
