Huge increase in Muslim hate crimes in the wake of the New Zealand terror attacks, according to new report - including awful incidents in Greater Manchester

Incidents of Muslim hate crime rocketed in the weeks following the New Zealand terror attacks, according to a new report. Most of the offences were committed online, according to Tell MAMA - a group which supports victims of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hate.

Incidents reported to Tell MAMA increased by 692 per cent in the wake of the Christchurch mosque killings last March - a Tell MAMA report published a year after the attacks states.

In the week prior to the attacks just 12 incidents were recorded, while 95 were recorded in the week of the terror attacks. Tell MAMA says the New Zealand terror attacks - in which 51 people were killed - had 'a significant effect in the UK, resulting in a rapid but long-lasting increase in anti-Muslim
