It comes as civic leaders across the region pay tribute to The Duke of Edinburgh, with some saying they felt an "almost personal sense of loss." The Queen's husband of 74 years, died this morning at Windsor Castle, aged 99, it was announced by Buckingham Palace.

Manchester City Council said this afternoon that the Union Flag would be flown at half-mast for the eight days of national mourning.
