Two people were trapped inside their vehicles after a five car pile up in the middle of the M6 on Saturday night (March 2). Emergency services, including police, fire crews and paramedics, raced to the scene of the major smash on the southbound carriageway between junctions 18 for Middlewich and 17 for Sandbach.
All traffic was stopped after the dramatic crash shortly before 9pm and the motorway was closed. Two people had to be rescued and cut free from their vehicles using specialist equipment. The motorway later reopened after the scene had been cleared. A spokesperson for the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews were called to the scene of a five-vehicle collision.
Using specialist cutting equipment and rescue techniques they released two casualties who were trapped. "Six people in total were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
