The government today announced a package of £16m in new funding to support frontline food charities during the coronavirus pandemic.

The fund will be used by food distribution charity FareShare and the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to help them increase food redistribution work that they already do.

The money will also help them 'significantly expand' their sourcing capacity. George Eustice made the announcement at the daily Downing Street press briefing on Friday (May 8).

The Environment Secretary said more than one million food parcels had so far been delivered to the clinically vulnerable in society.
