Disco diva Gloria Gaynor is here to help you survive the coronavirus pandemic. The 70-year-old singer hopped on TikTok and repurposed her 1980 breakup anthem, “I Will Survive,” on Wednesday to show people how to properly wash their hands.
She is seen in the video, which has racked up nearly 14,000 views in less than 24 hours, sudsing up in the bathroom and swaying her hips and shoulders as she lip-syncs her hit. “It only takes :20 seconds to ‘SURVIVE!’ ” reads an accompanying caption with her dance hall ditty, which — along with the “Happy Birthday” song sung twice and other tunes — happens to align with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines that suggest washing one’s hands for at least that long.
