A former Irvine brickworks could be transformed into a glamping meadow.Plans have been submitted to North Ayrshire Council to build eight 'Eco-Pods' and a dwelling house at Lochlibo Road, Girdle Toll. The five-acre rural site — directly adjacent to the historic Doura Cottage — was home to Doura Brickworks for around 100 years up until its closure in the middle of the last century. Now applicant John Hamilton wants to give the area a new lease of life as a tourist spot.Proposals include the creation of a new meadow to host glamping accommodation in the style of timber and clad 'Eco Pods'.'The site would cater for up to 16 guests at a time, operate for 10 months of the year between February and December, and be managed by the family residing in the proposed house.A supporting statement lodged with council planners as part of the application says: "The site has been specifically chosen to redevelop an unmanaged and neglected piece of brownfield land that currently has no productive value."The proposed new house and Eco Pods will be accessed via a new access off Lochlibo Road close to the existing field access point."The simple EcoPods will include a double bed, cooking area, WC, shower, sofa and table and chairs. "The site layout and design has been carefully chosen to ensure that, as far as is possible, the new residential property and EcoPods will assimilate into the existing development pattern and immediate vicinity."The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now.Get all the local news in your area – plus features, football news and the latest on the coronavirus crisis – at your fingertips 24/7.The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories while you can customise your page with the sections
