Earlier this month, a top Manchester judge passing sentence in a case of death by dangerous driving where a loving couple died in the same crash, even admitted the jail term he imposed on their killer 'may appear less than it ought to be'.
Under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act, which came into force at the end of last month, judges can now impose life sentences to those convicted of causing death by dangerous driving. "Too many lives have been lost to reckless behaviour behind the wheel, devastating families," justice secretary Dominic Raab said.
