'Ghost town' Scots streets empty on Boxing Day as Tier 4 lockdown shuts down cities

Typically Edinburgh's Royal Mile and Glasgow's Style Mile on Buchanan Street would be bustling this afternoon - but today they are like a ghost town.

All non-essential stores across Scotland were ordered to close on December 26, with only click-and-collect services allowed.In a desperate bid to survive retailers have been forced to move their usual post-Christmas sales online as Scots are asked to stay at home.

It comes after mainland Scotland was placed into tier four at midnight after cases of a new strain of the virus continues to climb.
