One of the government's chief scientists has warned the public to prepare to deal with coronavirus for 'several years'. Deputy chief medical officer for England Professor Jonathan Van-Tam made the startling comment during the government's daily press briefing in Downing Street.
He was speaking in response to a question from a member of the public who asked if the government was preparing for a second wave of the virus "so all the issues of the first wave won't happen again." Prof Van-Tam started by saying: "We're absolutely hoping not to have a second wave.
That is one of the reasons why we are being so careful about unlocking social distancing one piece at a time. "We absolutely don't want this to get out of control again.
