Former Conservative council leader who ran against Andy Burnham for mayor to stand down

The former council leader of Trafford is stepping down. Conservative councillor Sean Anstee has decided to leave Trafford Council after representing Bowdon ward since 2008 and later representing Dunham Massey and Warburton wards.

He became one of the youngest council leaders in the country when he was selected in 2014, where he remained until 2018. After the council leadership was won by Labour, Coun Anstee handed leadership of the Conservative group in Trafford to Coun Nathan Evans.

Coun Anstee also ran for Mayor of Greater Manchester in 2017 and was awarded a CBE in 2019’s New Year’s Honours List. It is understood Coun Anstee has stepped down to take on a new role as executive director for advisory, public affairs and PR at Cratus
