Andy Burnham appeals to Muslim community to avoid social gatherings during Ramadan

The Mayor of Greater Manchester has appealed to the Muslim community to avoid social gatherings during Ramadan. Ramadan began on Thursday, April 23 and the holy month usually sees worshippers fast, congregate, pray and celebrate together.

However, this year will be different due to the ongoing lockdown measures as well as places of worship closing. Many Muslims are now having to pray at home instead of attending a mosque.

Andy Burnham has urged those observing Ramadan to continue to follow the Government guidelines. He said: "We understand that Ramadan is a time when family and friends come together and that Mosques are very much at the centre of that, however it is vital that we continue to follow Government guidelines.
