Film director Jim Sheridan comforted by family after laying his beloved wife to rest

Film director Jim Sheridan is being comforted by family and friends after the funeral of his beloved wife Fran. Mass was held at noon at St Mary’s Church in Haddington Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin, and was attended by many members of the film, broadcasting and arts world.

Fran Sheridan died on Wednesday 20 October at St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin. The funeral Mass was said by Father Brendan Kealy, a friend of the Sheridan family who is now based at St Agatha’s Catholic Church in Ballybough, in the north inner city, close to where Jim Sheridan grew up.

The church only allowed 50 per cent capacity under Covid rules but broadcast the service on its website. Afterwards, mourners moved to Mount Jerome crematorium in Harold’s Cross before
