A driver says he was pulled over in the early hours of the morning by a young man pretending to be a police officer. The incident happened at around 3.30am on Saturday on Oldham Road, in Denshaw, when the driver, who has asked to remain anonymous, passed two vehicles parked side-by-side with their hazard lights on.

After he drove past the parked cars he noticed one of the vehicles, a silver Mercedes had followed him. The person inside had switched on flashing lights on the dashboard, similar to an unmarked police car. "As I passed I could see the Mercedes approaching me at speed. "As I got to the S bend heading down he began flashing his headlights vigorously then police lights were inside the car like an unmarked police car. "I pulled over near the safeguard fostering centre.

As soon as I did the red Toyota pulled in front blocking me in akin to a police manoeuvre." However, once the drivers of the two pursuing vehicles had left their cars, the man they were following became concerned that they were not really police officers.

He added: "I turned off my engine and a young Asian man in his early 20s got out and stood looking at me. I looked in my wing mirror and another young Asian man, also in his early 20s and chubby, wearing a bumbag and glasses had approached my car. "I started my engine and revved the car as a warning as I realised they were not police officers.
