Eurovision 2020 has been cancelled amid the continuing coronavirus crisis. An official statement from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said it is with "deep regret" that the event, in Rotterdam, will not go ahead as planned in May.
Event organisers say that due to the escalating spread of COVID-19 throughout Europe – and the restrictions put in place by governments of participating countries - it is impossible to continue with the live event as planned.
This will be the first time in the event’s 64 year history that it has been forced to cancel. The EBU said that it tried to look for “alternative options” to allow the event - planned for May 12 to 16 - to go ahead, but this was not possible.
