A former Eurovision fan club president has said the decision to cancel the 2020 event will leave a ‘big hole’ in our TV schedules.

Paul Marks-Jones, who led the UK arm of OGAE (Organisation Générale des Amateurs de l'Eurovision) between 2009 and 2015, hoped that organisers would somehow find a way around the coronavirus crisis.

But yesterday fans’ fears were realised when an official statement from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said the song contest, in Rotterdam, will not go ahead as planned in May.

Event organisers say that due to the escalating spread of COVID-19 throughout Europe – and the restrictions put in place by governments of participating countries - it is impossible to continue with the live event as planned.
