Tributes have been paid to the “heroic” part-time firefighters who helped to contain a devastating wildfire blaze.Community groups across the Stewartry showed their appreciation by keeping the crews fuelled up with food and drink as they battled the flames from between Gatehouse and Mossdale from Thursday until Monday.New Galloway Community Shop boxed up sandwiches, crisps, fruit and drinks for the exhausted teams.Manager Andrea Smith said: “We heard locally that there were a lot of fire crews fighting the fire.“We asked a local gamekeeper who was working with them if the firefighters needed food and drink.
