The number of Scots dying from illegal drugs remains "far too high" as the latest figures show hundreds more people lost their lives in the first nine months of this year.
Data shared by Police Scotland found 1007 fatalities linked to drugs from January to September, a slight decrease of four per cent on the number in the same period last year.
The Scottish Government now publishes the number of drug-related deaths across the country on a quarterly basis after it was slated for failing to get to grips with the issue.In the quarter from July to September 2021 there were 285 suspected drug deaths, 44 fewer than the previous calendar quarter.
