North West Motorway Police tweeted: "The driver of this Vauxhall was fortunate not to lose everything after smashing into the only thing separating them and the Manchester Ship Canal. "Completely avoidable, had the driver made a better decision & not drove when drunk. "Currently sobering up in a cell."
