Drink driving convictions fall as action taken to combat the crime hailed
dailyrecord.co.ukdrink driving has paid off year after year, with offences dropping by 51% since 2007.“The campaigns we have led are having a real impact and making drivers think twice before getting behind the wheel.”The statistics reveal the number of convictions for people who drove under the influence.The number fell in every year from 2007, apart from two years back-to-back when there were small rises.Most of the reduction occurred in the years leading up to 2015, after which the yearly total has stood at around 3,500.Although the most up to date figure shows a sizeable fall over the period, the lowest number of convictions during this period was 3,537 in 2015/16.One of the changes of the last decade was to reduce the alcohol limit for drivers from 80.
