A home was left burned out by an early hours fire, leaving the roof damaged and a window blown out. Emergency services were called to Mahood Street in Edgeley at around 5.48am this morning (July 31).

Firefighters and police descended on the street, there are understood to be no injuries and the fire was extinguished shortly after.

Mahood Street was taped off the road for hours as investigations began - just a road away from the borough's football ground, which saw Stockport County's first game back in the Football League this week.

Police officers were speaking to neighbours of the affected house as firefighters continued to attend the scene. Work is underway to establish the cause of the fire, police have confirmed.
