Covid-19: New Test Available

By Vanessa Papas: The world is focused on the Corona virus now as countries prepare for the spread of infections. Believed to be mainly transmitted through contact with respiratory droplets rather than through the air, Covid-19 has killed 4000 people globally – a drop in the ocean, say some experts, when compared to the mammoth amount of lives lost every day due to TB and other infectious diseases such as influenza.

When Tuberculosis (TB) first struck in the late 1800s it spread so quickly around the globe that it became of epidemic proportions.

Despite the decades-long introduction of vaccine Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG), there are still over 400 000 cases of TB in South Africa every year.
