Councillors urge ScotRail bosses to rethink planned ticket office cuts with Paisley and Johnstone hours set to be reduced

Renfrewshire councillors have hit out at a decision by ScotRail to cut ticket office hours at stations insisting people's safety will be compromised.The train company has announced plans to reduce the opening hours of dozens of offices including those at Paisley Gilmour Street and Johnstone following a 21-day public consultation.Under the proposals, the Gilmour Street ticket office would shut at 9.45pm on weekdays and Saturdays rather than 11.10pm.On Sundays, ScotRail plans to shut the office at 10pm as opposed to 11.05pm.Meanwhile, at Johnstone, the ticket office would close more than an hour earlier on Monday to Thursday at 7.15pm while on Fridays and Saturdays there are plans to shut up shop 15 minutes earlier at 8.15pm.

Around 1,500 people across the country submitted objections to ScotRail's review but the company has said it intends to press ahead with its plans.At the latest full council meeting, elected members passed a motion tabled by Stephen Burns and Kenny MacLaren asking the local authority to write to ScotRail and the Scottish Government to demand the plans be scrapped.Councillor Burns said: "The staff are the eyes and ears of these stations particularly if there is any anti-social behaviour or anybody acting untoward."They can raise issues with British Transport Police and if there are any disabled passengers needing help, they are the people who can deal with that."I've
