Clyde title heartbreak relived 16 years on as Bully Wee come within one point of top flight

News filtered through from Inverness that the highland side had beat St Johnstone 3-1, and Clyde’s 5-2 win over Brechin City was meaningless… the Bully Wee had lost the 2003-04 First Division championship by a single point on the final day.

John Robertson’s side had put in an impressive 10-game unbeaten run going into the final straight of that season’s championship, while Clyde had struggled to put results together; that win at Glebe Park was only their second in four games, including a costly 2-1 defeat to their rivals.

Defender Simon Mensing was part of the Clyde team at Brechin, and says it still hurts 16 years later – though he concedes that the Cumbernauld club have to take some responsibility as well.
