Chloe Zhao getting honest about the less than spectacular reviews and reactions about Eternals, which debuted just last year for Marvel.
The 39-year-old Oscar winning director stepped behind the camera to helm the pic, which starred Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie and more. Click inside to see what Chloe shared about the audience’s reaction… Speaking with Empire magazine, Chloe thinks that the timing of the movie may have had an impact. “Eternals was planned to be released soon after [2019's Avengers] Endgame, and not at a time when everyone is having an existential crisis,” she explained. “The film itself is about existential crisis, both for humanity and God.
So I think we definitely felt it was coming.” Chloe added that the film also included a lot of her own indie taste with the Marvel formula. “In this case, we truly stepped out of the box that I think the world put us in, and met in the middle because of our shared interests.
And by truly doing that, it made a lot of people uncomfortable on both sides.” She continued, “There are also people who are more comfortable with the order of their world [being] disturbed.
