However, the 99-year-old war veteran has just collaborated with singer Michael Ball to release a charity single, and it is already shot to the top of the UK iTunes charts.The song, a lovely rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone, from the 1945 musical Carousel, has narrowly beaten Vera Lynn’s war time classic We’ll Meet again, to secure the top spot.
Captain Tom has become a beacon of hope amid the coronavirus pandemic, having raised millions for NHS Charities Together which helps those on the frontline to battle the illness.
