Furious pensioners in Halfway say they feel isolated and abandoned after the lifeline bus service they depended on was slashed.

Defiant residents are adding their names to a petition calling on SPT and bus firm McGill’s to reverse the decision to change the route of the 172 from Halfway to East Kilbride through Dechmont so it no longer calls at their streets.

Elderly and disabled residents were left reeling when transport bosses decided in January that the service they had relied upon for 20 years to take them up the steep hill to their homes would no longer cover Deans Avenue, Dechmont Avenue, Gilbertfield Road or Castle Chimmins Road.
