Budget only a 'modest start' on levelling up, says mayor Andy Burnham - rating it 6/10

Andy Burnham has given a cautious welcome to some of the announcements contained in the government’s first Budget - but expressed disappointment that a range of transport promises had not been fulfilled.

The mayor was speaking after the Chancellor unveiled £175bn of capital investment he said was aimed at ‘getting things done’, including cash for housing, colleges, road and rail.

In Greater Manchester that includes money for thousands of homes to be built in north Manchester, as well as an unspecified pot of cash for public transport.
