Brexit trade talks break up early with 'serious disagreements' on access to fishing grounds

Brexit talks in Brussels on an EU-UK trade deal have broken up early with the EU’s chief negotiator complaining of a lack of respect by the British government.

The two sides ended the week’s negotiations, the first held in person since February, a day ahead of schedule amid frustration and what both sides described as “serious” disagreements.

Michel Barnier said:  “Our goal was to get negotiations successfully and quickly on a trajectory to reach an agreement. However, after four days of discussions, serious divergences remain.”Barnier highlighted access to fishing grounds for EU vessels and state aid rules.
