Bomb squad lock down Edinburgh street after ‘unexploded ordnance’ found in canal

A bomb disposal unit locked down an Edinburgh street today after an “unexploded ordnance” was found in the city's Union Canal.

Police taped off Gibson Terrace in Fountainbridge around 12.15pm following the discovery. Bomb disposal experts secured the device and several police vehicles were seen parked along the street along with the disposal unit van.

The unexploded ordnance was taken to Gypsy Brae at the city's north coast to be safely detonated.Officers have reassured the public that they face no further risk.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.15pm on Sunday, 31 October, officers were called to the Gibson Terrace area of Edinburgh, following a report of potential unexploded ordnance being found in the nearby canal.“A cordon
