Bomb squad called out after teen's terrifying hoax that left police fearing for lives

A bomb squad were scrambled to a bus stop in to carry out a controlled explosion after a teenager launched a terrifying hoax which left officers fearing they'd be killed.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving a phone call that there was a threatening man with a gun putting a bag with wires under abus stop in Rochdale town centre.They arrived at the scene about 3am on April 21 and called in the bomb squad when they discovered the bag matching the caller's description, Manchester Evening News reports.

While cops waited for the Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit to arrive, a masked man appeared and chapped on the window of an officer's car.

Husnain Masood, 17, who had phoned the police earlier that night, was dressed in all black, wearing a balaclava and was carrying a knife.
