An investigation is underway after trouble broke out at the end of Bolton Wanderers' match against Exeter City. A win would have seen Wanderers promoted from League Two and hundreds of fans gathered outside the University of Bolton Stadium to offer some support.
Earlier in the week, the club had advised fans not to turn up but safety measures such as metal fencing and stewards were put in place to try and control the crowds.
The afternoon started well for the Whites, with Gethin Jones taking the lead after 15 minutes - a goal met with huge applause and colourful smoke bombs from the fans watching on their phones and listening to the radio outside the ground.
