Hundreds of Wiganers braved Halloween storms to welcome a giant puppet to the town this afternoon. Residents and borough leaders turned out in their droves to welcome ‘Little Amal’, a 3.5 metre tall puppet who represents a nine-year-old refugee, on the final leg of an 8,000km (5,000 mile) ‘search for her mother’.
That was despite appalling wind and rain — with Little Amal’s arrival into Trencherfield Mill delayed by the horrendous conditions.
