Disney has confirmed that a new live-action version of Artemis Fowl is heading to its streaming service.

The coronavirus pandemic has taken a major toll on Hollywood's box office, as social distancing and shelter-in-place orders across the U.S. have led to release date delays, production shutdowns, theater closures, and, as a result, record-low movie ticket sales with no end in sight.

It looks like the Mouse House’s Artemis Fowl will hit Disney+ on 12th June. The announcement came with a new trailer from the studio who recently decided to launch the Kenneth Branagh-directed movie onto the streaming service rather than delaying it until cinemas open once again. The film’s debut will be just two weeks after its previously planned theatrical debut. Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Colin Farrell, and Judi Dench are amongst the cast.

The new movie Artemis Fowl is heading straight to Disney+ since movie theaters are shut down for the foreseeable future.

The coronavirus pandemic has taken a major toll on Hollywood's box office, as social distancing and shelter-in-place orders across the U.S. have led to release date delays, production shutdowns, theater closures, and, as a result, record-low movie ticket sales with no end in sight.

Upcoming Disney movie Artemis Fowl, which is directed by Kenneth Branagh, is set to debut on the streaming service Disney+. The movie was originally set for release is cinemas in May but of course, with most auditoriums closed, the decision has been made to stream the movie into homes.

As movie theaters remain shuttered across major markets, Disney is forgoing the theatrical window for its family adventure film Artemis Fowl, opting to debut it on Disney+ at a future date. The film, based on Eoin Colfer's children's books of the same name and directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Judi Dench, Colin Farrell and Josh Gad, was slated for theatrical release May 29.

Disney has made its biggest move yet amid movie theater closures due to the coronavirus pandemic: It’s sending a major film straight to Disney+.

While they may have delayed the release of their live-action version of Mulan, Disney has released a brand new trailer for Artemis Fowl with the film’s late-May release date reportedly still intact.
