A.C. “Tony” King was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II who survived the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. His death leaves just eight Indianapolis survivors still living.King was serving aboard the USS Indianapolis in the Pacific Ocean when it was struck by Japanese torpedoes on July 30, 1945.
The ship quickly sank, but rescue was not as quick – the men who survived the blast remained in the water for four days and five nights as sharks attacked.
Ravaged by the elements, just 316 of the original 1195 crewmen on board the ship survived. King was one of them. After the war, he earned a master’s degree in psychology and traveled extensively. It’s far too soon for us to share that another USS Indianapolis Survivor has passed away.
