Writers Guild Members Approve New TV/Theatrical Deal

After reaching a tentative agreement with Hollywood producers on July 1 amid the pandemic, Writers Guild of America members have now voted to approve the new three-year TV/theatrical deal.

The ratification effort was passed with 4,068votes in favor and 87votes opposed, the guild said on Wednesday. (The Writers Guild West includes around 10,000 members, while the East branch has 6,000-plus members.) Guild leadership has touted that the new deal, valued at $200 million over three years, boasts gains in streaming residuals, increased funding for its pension plan and a new paid parental leave fund.
