Emergency services were called out to Stalybridge town centre on Monday night (April 27) following reports of a female in the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Armentieres Square, near Trinity Street.

Firefighters from across Greater Manchester were sent out to the scene after 9.30pm, while paramedics attended, including North West Ambulance Service's (NWAS) hazardous area response team (HART).

Eyewitnesses also reported a large police presence in the area while the rescue operation was underway. Crews, including Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's (GMFRS) technical response
