Malcolm Connolly was personal security to Johnny Depp for around 23 years and has just given his testimony during the star's $50 million libel trial with ex wife Amber Heard.Malcolm began his working life in Glasgow as an apprentice Bricklayer in 1976, and went on to work in most of the pubs and clubs across the city as door supervisor around 1983 - where he says he quickly learned diplomacy and civility.When his dad told him he was keen that he learn a trade in 1988, Malcolm moved to the Gold Coast in Australia where he worked as a bricklayer as well as in clubs.On his arrival back in the UK, he went to work for Music and Arts Security and began mixing with celebrities from the film and music world, covering their personal safety for premiers and press junkets.According to The Independent, he began working as a security guard for Johnny Depp when he was with Vanessa Paradis.
He reportedly encountered Amber Heard in 2010 for the first time during her promotion for the film Drive Angry with Nicolas Cage in the UK.He guarded Amber for a week then met her again when she appeared in The Rum Diary with Depp.He now lives in Essex, speaking about Johnny and Amber through a video link and despite travelling the world, he retained his Glasgow accent throughout.He and Johnny seemed to share a close bond and he detailed previous injuries sustained by the star during the couple's relationship.He also spoke about a photo of Johnny and Amber taken during their 2013 Honeymoon, where he talked about wounds on Johnny's face.Malcolm also said he saw Johnny change from being "happy" to "quiet" and Amber becoming more "dominant" and "demanding".According to the New York Post, he told the court: "At the beginning [it was] all lovey-dovey.
