Following Andy Burnham's announcement on Monday that bike rental would be launched this year, transport bosses have confirmed they are following a 'competitive tender process' in partnership with the 10 councils and the GMCA.

There are currently four operators in the running, with the preferred bidder to be revealed next month before a launch currently slated for November.

At this delicate stage in proceedings, the detail is scant - although the Manchester Evening News has learnt there will be 1,500 bikes in phase one, including e-bikes.
