Warning over scammers cashing in on coronavirus outbreak by selling 'miracle cures'

Scammers are using the coronavirus outbreak to con people out of their cash. Crooks have carried out a range of scams - from fake sanitisers, bogus food supplements they claim stop people from catching the deadly COVID-19 strain, and promises of two months free council tax because of the pandemic.

And Trading Standards officers have now issued a warning to consumers to try to stop them being ripped off. Councillor Michael McCormick, Convener of Inverclyde Council's Environment & Regeneration Committee, said: "It is despicable that heartless criminals are exploiting members of the public when neighbourhoods and communities are coming together to support each other.
